Although PsychoYP may have been developed and refined in Abuja, Lagos remains a vibrant hub for the talented rapper. His music delves into the intersection of youth, hipness, freedom, and financial stability. In his latest project, Osapa London, YP shifts his focus to the upscale neighborhood of the same name, situated in the heart of Lagos’ renowned archipelago. Embracing the themes of progress and exuberance that define life in Osapa London, PsychoYP continues to embody youthfulness and uninhibited expression, while also paying homage to the celebratory motifs that characterized YPSZN2.
Osapa London commences with a reflective contemplation on YP’s current life and the state of Nigeria in the track “This Country.” Additionally, this project showcases the most prominent infusion of Afropop-adjacent melodies in YP’s repertoire thus far. Ajebo Hustlers join in for a vibe-driven extravaganza on “Not My Fault,” while King Perryy adds an extra layer of dynamism to “STAND ATTENTION.” However, Psycho YP never strays too far from his hip-hop roots, as ODUMODUBLVCK collaborates on a grime-influenced track titled “SETTLE US!” where both rappers assert their street credibility. Furthermore, the legendary rapper Ice Prince delivers a breezy verse on “Most Times.”
