Buddy released a hiphop/rap single – free my mind, talks about how he had to free his mind and he’ll be alright as the title implies, great song, captivating lyrics, infectious beats.
My favorite song of buddy will be ‘trouble on central’ from his ‘Harlan & Alondra album from 2018.
The initial release of Harlan & Alondra in 2018 was a significant moment for Buddy, the talented MC and vocalist from Compton. He first gained recognition as Pharrell’s teenage rapping protégé. The deluxe version of Harlan & Alondra expands on the original album with the addition of four songs, all of which perfectly embody the hazy Los Angeles funk that garnered the album a spot on numerous year-end lists.
One of these songs, “Cubicle,” features incarcerated Watts gangsta rapper 03 Greedo, who opens up about the unique experiences of growing up in one of LA’s neighborhoods. “It’s Love” is a scuzzy disco track where Buddy passionately sings about the endless joys of being in a loving relationship. “Link Up,” which includes Kent Jamz, Bas, Guapdad 4000, and J.I.D, captures the spirit of a Tribe Called Quest posse cut with its camaraderie and mic-passing energy.
Finally, “Bad Attitude” concludes the quartet, with Buddy taking a moment to remind listeners that the Compton depicted in gangsta rap is the same Compton he proudly represents.
Free my mind was released on October 13th 2023.
